Hamsa/Khamsa

The Hamsa is a centuries-old, hand-shaped amulet of Jewish and Muslim people, an important cultural element in Mediterranean and North African cultures.
Its name comes from the word Khamsa (Arabic) and hamesh (Hebrew), which means five.
It refers to the number of fingers on the hand. Hamsas have traditionally been valued for their ability to ensure magical protection against the “evil eye”.
Joel’s ceramic Hamsa Series presents this ancient symbol in his unique artistic and contemporary designs.
